Registration and Information
The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is the nation’s largest youth employment program, connecting NYC youth between the ages of 14 and 24 with career exploration opportunities and paid work experience each summer. Participants have the opportunity to explore their interests and career pathways, develop workplace skills and engage in learning experiences that help in developing their social, civic and leadership skills. By participating in structured project and work-based opportunities, NYC youth are better prepared for careers of the future.
Participants who are 14 to 15 years old have the opportunity to develop and improve their professional skills with a rigorous six week project based learning program. Participants have the option of choosing between three different career paths to where they will learn everything they need to be successful. This program gives the youth joining the workforce for the first time the opportunity to gain important professional skills that will help them become successful in the next phase of life.
Our SYEP Older Youth Participants are given an opportunity to work amongst organizations within our community. During our provider led orientation training, we groom our participants for career exploration and development, we provide education, resources and information on interviewing, expectations at the work place and what we anticipate they expect from us. Our overall goal each year is to make sure we are providing more of an opportunity than a service to youths who are ready to commit to employment in their early teenage years. Our participants are immersed in positions such as assistant camp counselors, child care assistants, clerical aides and office assistant, hospitality aide, motor vehicle representatives, research interns, assistant education specialist, sales interns, environmental focus interns, marketing and social media interns, janitor, assistant to custodians, social media fan base specialists, sports assistant, legal assistant, activity leaders & teacher's aides, just to name a few. Many of our older participants ages 18-up end up keeping some of the jobs they acquire after proving that they have what is takes to meet all employment requirements as well as productive performances.
Applications are closed for Summer 2022. Check in with DYCD to enroll for next year. https://www1.nyc.gov/site/dycd/services/jobs-internships/summer-youth-employment-program-syep.page
