University Prep Charter High School contracted ASPIRA's Leadership and College Access Program to provide after school program activities, student employment program, SAT Prep classes, College/Career Readiness trainings, as well as social and cultural opportunities and experiences to engage, engaging high school youth.
Later Gator activities slated for the 2022-2023 school year include; broadcasting, fitness, cooking, leadership, fashion/photography/modeling, anime, step, student government to name a few.
The After School Program provided is called Later Gator. Activities are instructed by University Prep teachers as well as Activity Specialists hired through ASPIRA. Activities provided range from, leadership, health and wellness, art, music, cooking, dance/step.
SAT Prep instruction serves 11th grade students selected by University Preps Guidance Counselor. There are 64 students identified and selected. They are broken up into two groups of 32 (A fall and spring group). The SAT Prep classes are instructed by a SAT instructor hired through the Program Director.
There are also College Access incentive/workshops conducted by the Assistant Director where students are given additional access to incentives, scholarships, career options, trade schools etc. University Prep students who attend any Later Gator activity and/or are GatorCorps students are able to attend many fun, inspirational, cultural, engaging, empowering trips throughout the school year.
Students are surveyed via Google Forms regarding interest in GatorCorps. Program Director conducts group interviews for students who expressed interest through Google Forms.
GatorCorps job positions include Administrative Assistant jobs within University Prep HS as well as University Prep Middle School. All other positions are within University Prep's Middle Schools Later Gator After School program. Students are hired as Activity Aides assisting with activity instruction as well Recess Aides.
GatorCorps interviews are conducted in a group setting. The Program Director meets with the University Prep Middle School admin team to decide how many GatorCorps students are needed for their Lator Gator program.
GatorCorps students must attend mandatory Career Development meetings and trainings twice a month. GatorCorps students must fill out paper timesheets bi weekly and are paid via Bill.com.
During the 2021-2022 school year there were 70 GatorCorps students hired.
During the 2021-2022 school year students attend a camping leadership weekend retreat, Wicked on Broadway, Area 53, Bowling. Hamilton on Broadway to name a few.
There are so many amazing initiatives the student can and have experienced including receiving free haircuts for graduation, attending an amazing Areito Prom Ceremony. And we are just scratching the surface! The best is yet to Come! STAY TUNED!!!!
